About Midwife Camille

“Midwifery is a door that you cannot force open but one that will open for those it has chosen”

Midwifery has chosen me, and I am honored you’ve decided to explore if Wise Sage Midwifery is right for you! Hi, I’m Midwife Camille, native to a beautiful small town in Guyana, South America. Guyana is rich in cultural diversity and has shaped my afro-Indigenous cultural beliefs which encourage a woman’s ability to grow, nurture and birth the children of their wombs and to also inspired future young mothers by allowing them to witness the power and strength of homebirth. I incorporate these cultural beliefs into my practice and throughout the birth my clients are empowered and encouraged to trust in their capabilities as mothers and in the capabilities of their bodies. We believe that pregnancy and birth are physiological events that do not require medical interventions, and we hold safe space for the small percentage that requires our assistance. I was trained as a Direct Entry Midwife, through many apprenticeships and training I have completed all the required academical, didactical and clinical requirements needed to proficiently serve as a community-based Certified Community Midwife. I began my journey into homebirth over 14 years ago, where I attended and assisted at my first homebirth of a family member that was attended by a community-based Certified Nurse Midwife. That experience has forever changed my thoughts and philosophy surrounding westernized maternity care, pregnancy, and birth. I received my clinical midwifery training through a variety of apprenticeships such as: a community-based CM run homebirth practice in Upstate, New York where I was afforded the opportunity to train in all the various aspects of clinical midwifery, an Amish birth house in Pennsylvania, a high-volume birth center and a community-based CNM lead home birth practice. I received my BS from Hunter college and has completed both Beginning and Advanced Hearts and Hands Midwifery programs by world renowned Midwife, Midwifery Educator and Director of NMI, Elizabeth Davis.

I have also continued my community learning by attending traditional cultural training with Awombsway warrior Midwifery training by Sakina O’Uhuru, CNM to continue to serve and address the needs women of color before, during and after pregnancy. I have attended many additional obstetrical and midwifery trainings during my apprenticeships including National College of Utah midwifery observational program, Midwifery Wisdom collective Advanced Practice Midwifery Courses including Core Midwifery Monitoring fetal heart tones, Fetal positioning, Suturing after birth, Shoulder Dystocia, Preventing & Treating hemorrhages, Labor Encouragement & Induction, Spinning Babies Shoulder Dystocia workshop, Neonatal Resuscitation with Karen Strange, Northwest Birth Midwifery Support training, University of Colorado – The Newborn Assessment, Preventative Healthcare for the Newborn, University of Colorado – Baby & Emergency Care: Pregnancy & Infants, University of Illinois – Lactation Biology.

I am a midwifery instructor/educator, Certified in Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED, NRP Certified by AAP, Certified in Helping Mothers Survive and also a Certified Provider and Instructor for Helping Babies to Breathe training by AAP. I occasionally travel to developing countries as an International High-Risk Midwife and currently serve families in Pennsylvania, primarily in Dauphin County.

I look forward to meeting you and I hope to join you on this wonderful journey of pregnancy and birth.
